10 Steps That You Need to Follow in Steel Welding and Pole Fabrication

The process of welding is used to join different materials with the help of fusion. This process is completely unique when compared to low temperature metal-joining techniques. A filler material is added to the process, which combines with the base metal to form a weld pool. This cools further to form a joint that is much stronger than the base material.

Steps to follow in Steel Welding and Pole Fabrication:#1. Wearing Protective Equipment The person who is going to perform steel welding should wear full pants and full-length shirts and expose as much less skin as possible. The operator should always wear full protective gloves, eye-wear, and if possible ear protection as well. #2. Which Joining Method Is the Best? The most frequently used joints in welding are the butt, corner, lap, edge, and T joints. Before choosing a joint, the factors that need to be considered are joint accessibility, metal thickness, and the welding strength. #3. Securing the Work Piece with Jigs and Fixtures This is an important step in the entire welding process. If a good quality fixture is not used, the work piece can fall down and cause the entire exercise to go for a waste. #4. Choosing the Most Suitable Process for Steel welding The different processes available at the disposal of the operator who carries out the steel welding are gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas tungsten welding, and shielded metal welding. Based on the time and budget, the right process can be chosen. #5. Choosing the Right Kind of Inert Shielding Gas In some processes of welding like the shielded metal welding, an inert gas shield is not required. For the other processes, the shields vary from helium to argon or a combination of various other gases. #6. Which Filler Material Should Be Used for Steel welding? If the metals to be fused are very similar, the base metal to be used for welding should match to the composition of the metals to be fused. If there is a difference in the metals, the filler material should be the one that does not crack easily. #7. Cleaning the Base Metal This is a very important step because it reduces the probability of oxides being formed on the base metal. For cleaning, the base metal should be brushed using a steel wire brush, which takes care of the cleaning bit. The operator should wear gloves in order to get any kind of impurities in the hand. #8. How to Bring the Stainless Steel to The Room Temperature? Preheating can be used to bring the stainless steel to room temperature. If authenticate steel is used, preheating can be avoided. Moreover, preheating can be used if thicker work pieces are used. #9. Post-heating After the Process of Steel Welding Is Complete If the steel work piece is cooled immediately, a lot of internal stress can creep in. This, in turn, promotes cracking. An important observation here is that post-heating is not mandatory when thick pieces are joint. #10. Removing Slag That Deposits on The Welded Spot The best methods that can be used to remove the deposits are usually by grinding or chipping with the help of a heavy hammer. Shield welding and flux cored welding are known to leave a lot of slag on the surface that can cause natural wear and tear. Hence, this step is important to avoid this wear and tear. Overall steel welding is the most preferred type of metal welding. This is because steel welding is a unique process that provides excellent output.
