ADHD Treatment- All you need to know

ADHD or Attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder is an issue faced by many people around the globe due to which they tend to become highly inattentive which affects their normal activities. Such people are also very impulsive and hyperactive which makes them extremely impatient and thus disrupts the normal flow of their lives. There are multiple debatable techniques that are used by specialists to check ADHD disorder in schools and colleges, but the results and the types of ADHD therapies vary from one person to another.

What are the symptoms that form part of ADHD?

In some cases, lack of attention all the time, getting up and moving constantly without any specific reason, not letting others speak by interrupting them every time, not listening to others can be enough reasons for someone to conclude that a child has ADHD issues. With age, hyperactivity and poor attention span can get better as an individual tends to mature with the passage of time but it will never get fully cured.

It has been seen that persistent ADHD can become worse with adulthood and interfere with the normal mental growth of an individual.

Certain factors that are held responsible for the disorder

Although many believe that ADHD has no specific cause, research suggests that environmental and genetic factors along with the nature of upbringing can trigger ADHD. It is very important to know the actual cause of the disorder in order to choose the right ADHD Treatment.

Some such causes are mentioned below:

Genetic factors Intake of alcohol, smoking, consumption of weeds and drugs while someone is pregnant triggers ADHD in the offspring Babies born with a low body weight at birth are more prone to ADHD than with born with normal birth weights. Babies born with brain or nerve injuries are at a greater risk to develop ADHD at some point in their lives.

ADHD is an irreversible disorder and one never gets completely cured of this issue. But choosing the right ADHD treatment can help an individual deal with the disorder and function properly.

Medication Stimulants: Among the several medicines available to treat ADHD, stimulants are the preferred the most due to their fast action. Stimulants act by stimulating the activity of dopamine that is known for activating the functions of the brain and improving functions like attention, ability to think and judge, etc.

Non-stimulants: Although they do not work as instantly as the stimulants, they are seen to make a remarkable improvement in people suffering from ADHD in terms of improvement of attention, focus, decreasing impulsion, etc. There are recurrent cases of less intellectual span and overall short productivity when you have the symptoms of ADHD treatment.

Antidepressants: The FDA does not approve of the use of antidepressants as prescription drugs to treat ADHD. Tricyclics, a class of antidepressants have been seen to activate the chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine, thus improving brain functions.

Ginseng, passion flower and different other elements that are extracted as a natural cure are used as ADHD medicines. But they should only be consumed after prior consultation with medical experts.

Although the above-mentioned medicines can be given for treating ADHD, they come with their own side-effects. A better option for ADHD treatment is opting for therapeutic counseling. As mentioned earlier, ADHD never gets cured completely; the parents and teachers of a child dealing with ADH must be empathetic and patient to their needs. In this context, school plays a pivotal role in treating such children so that their symptoms do not get worse with age. There are various helplines available that give free counseling on ADHD. So, choose the right type of ADHD treatment to lead a normal and tension-free life.
