Chlorine Pool vs Mineral Pool

If you have made up your mind to install a pool in your backyard, you must have heard about the recent hype of mineral pool. As compared to chlorine pools installed before, mineral pools are now known to offer a wide range of benefits to the owners, not only in terms of health but also for the environment. Let’s do a comparison between the two options so that you can make an informed decision about which option you want to go for.

Comparison between Mineral and Chlorine Pool

If you are confused between a chlorine pool and a mineral pool, then it’s extremely important for you to understand the differences between them. Let’s find them out.

Quality of water: Mineral pools use an oxidiser, due to which the pool water becomes self-oxidising and releases water that is free of any toxins. It also reduces the need for other chemicals needed to balance the water, such as chlorine. As a result, the quality of water remains high and feels silky on your skin when you dive into it. Minerals, when combined with water, help in maintaining the appropriate pH levels in the pool, so that it remains clean for long and requires minimal maintenance. Since magnesium is a natural and effective flocculant, the water quality remains high in these pools without much cleaning and maintenance needs. On the other hand, saltwater pools need a chlorine generator to keep them clean. Due to but is harsh on the skin as compared to the mineral ones.

Durable: As compared to a chlorine pool, a mineral pool is much easier to maintain, it is gentle on the skin, and is not that prone to corrosion. On the other hand, chlorine takes a toll on your pool and its accessories, due to which you need to get the pool repaired or replaced more frequently. Chlorine is naturally corrosive in nature and deteriorates your pool’s structure over time.

Expenses: A chlorine pool is cheaper to install and maintain, than a mineral pool. You may need to spend a  more on a mineral one than a chlorine pool, but you will realise over time that it ends up saving you time, energy and money in the long run.

Safety for skin: If you are suffering from skin itching, irritation or an allergy, then mineral pools would be the best option for you. High levels of salt in your pool may lead to skin flaring, especially if you have highly sensitive skin. Even if it does not cause skin irritation, it will at least dry it out for sure. But in case of mineral pools, your skin remains safe and healthy even if you dive into it every day.

Maintenance needs: Because a mineral pool is free from any chlorine content, the concrete or fibreglass structure of pool does not demand frequent resurfacing or maintenance. The water of mineral pools smells better, does not dry out your skin, and feels natural on your skin as well. Mineral pools do not need any clarifiers, algaecides or chlorine, as a result of which you end up saving a lot of power, water and other expenses. Mineral pools may take a few days of time to get the desired pH levels after installation, but once that is achieved, it would not require any maintenance and you won’t need any pool testing kit as well.

All in all, a mineral pool seems to be a safer, cost-efficient, maintenance-free pool option to go for. When you dive into one, you get more of a spa-like feeling unlike a regular saltwater swimming pool. Its installation, maintenance and utilities are also far less complicated than others. So, go for one and enjoy!
