Looking for a Trailer Home? Here's all you need to know

If you are a Hollywood series fan then you must be well aware of the trailer homes shown in the movies. Speaking from a general point of view, a trailer home would seem to be nothing more than a small van or bus which carries groups of people for private vacations from one place to another. However, upon opening the magical entrance doors to the trailer homes, you would get to see an amazing setup of a homely ambiance.

Yes, you got it right. These trailer vans are used by mediocre or people who love to travel from one place to another, enjoying their lives. You can also get such vans at minimal rents from various service providers. These places are not meant for permanent dwellers. But you can still use these for the purpose of temporary use during your shifting process from one house to another.

A Brief History of Movable Homes

The earliest mention of trailer homes is found in the 1500s, which were used by gypsies. Horses and oxen were used to pull the wooden houses made on a wooden platform and wheels.

Time changed but neither gypsies nor their houses changed although they transformed for good. Horse-driven homes were made into mechanically driven homes in the early 1900s. This replacement brought a revolution to all those who cannot afford to have a stationary home. The preference slowly increased from gypsies to non-gypsies for mechanical trailer homes.

Types of Mobile Home

The gradually growing demand for buying/renting a mobile home has compelled factories to make such homes. There are broadly two types of mobile homes - single wide and double wide. Sometimes there are multi-sectional homes as well.

A single wide type of mobile home is smaller in size than double wide. Their size can vary between 10 - 20 feet in length and 5 - 7 feet in breadth. These are preferably easier in transportation. Also, its smaller size is financially affordable.

Double wide are comparatively larger and tougher to transport for a trailer home. These may be 80 feet in length and 8 - 9 feet in breadth. Its magnanimous size makes it towing much harder and transportation may become head-spinning work for the owner.

The multi-sectional homes are built in two or three sections. They are transported in units differently and then assembled again.

How to move a Mobile Home

Mobile homes are exclusively built for the ease of transportation from one place to the other. There are professionals for moving such houses, specifically moving/ transportation companies.

The moving cost is largely dependent on the size of the mobile house. Other contributing factors for determining the cost of moving such a house are:

  • The Condition of Your Trailer Home: if your mobile home is in a good condition to be able to survive easier transportation or not.

  • Age of Your Mobile House: old houses are riskier when towed from one place to another as they are more prone to damage.

  • Distance Between The Two Places: distance does matter especially when moving is all about the distance from one place to another. Longer distance travelling will cost more in your pocket.

  • Weight of The House: Another exceptionally important factor in determining the cost of moving. Greater weights are harder to lift and towed to. If your mobile home is heavier, you will have to pay a heavy sum for that.

Advantages & Disadvantages of having a Trailer Home

  • Low Budget: affording a stationary house is still a matter of concern for many people. On the contrary to this, owning a Trailer home is a cheaper and more affordable option. Since it does not include buying a land property either and can be parked with a small sum of money, it is a preferable choice for many.

  • Quicker Transportation: as the houses on wheels are meant for moving, these houses are much quicker in transportation contradictory to stationary houses.

  • Not a Very Reliable Shelter From Storms: The only disadvantage of having a mobile house is they may not be a strong shelter from storms and cyclones. Built firmly, these are safe from strong winds but their mobility makes them vulnerable to storms and cyclones in cyclone-prone areas.

Conclusion

Trailer Homes are affordable and portable homes that allow the owner to tow them anywhere they want. Different types and sizes make them accessible to transport accordingly. Although made on wheels in a sturdy structure, they should be avoided to be parked in cyclone-prone areas. Transportation costs of such homes are dependent on size, weight, age and distance travelled.
