Why do you need heavy duty shelving?

Heavy duty shelving is necessary for keeping your warehouse and your valuable inventory organized and safe. When dealing with bulky items, you also need to have the appropriate sturdy shelving that is designed to handle such loads. Inventory that is not stored efficiently will slow down your business’s operational processes, costing you money and wasting time. Heavy products that are not stored appropriately can also present a risk to your staff, potentially resulting in injuries. An efficient layout aided by heavy duty shelving allows you to create order in your warehouse, provides easy access to inventory, boosts your business’s efficiency and maximises the space available to you.

Types of heavy duty shelvingBoltless shelving:  This shelving is flexible, easily deployed and durable shelving system. Sometimes called rivet shelving, boltless shelving relies on a heavy-duty rivet lock system as well as gravity to create a stable surface for stock, without the use of nuts or bolts. The rivets interlock and are slotting into the shelving frame. The rivets easily lock into place with the help of a rubber mallet, and the rest is left to gravity. Mobile aisle shelving: This shelving is another heavy-duty shelving system, known for being particularly cost-effective and space-efficient. Mobile aisle shelving consists of rows of shelving that can be moved easily, meaning you have effortless access to any storage location. This durable and flexible shelving system is often used for storing records, and helps small locations make the most of their available space without having to upgrade to a larger, more expensive building. Automotive shelving: This shelving is specifically designed for the automotive industry, including spare parts stores, dealerships and service centres. The major benefit of automotive shelving is that it can easily be adapted in accordance with your changing storage needs, as old components can be reconfigured and new ones can be added. The use of optional dividers allows for easy access to inventory and division of smaller parts to avoid clutter and loss of product. Pallet racks are a popular heavy duty shelving option, especially for businesses who already use pallets for the storage and transportation of inventory. Pallet racks are designed to store forklift pallets and make use of the vertical space available. Some of the pallet racking systems available include selective, pallet flow and push back systems. Wire shelving: utilises wire mesh supported by a metal frame, making it a lightweight yet durable option. Wire shelving also provides the added advantage of being resistant to rust and mould, making it ideal for environments that demand high hygiene standards, such as for food storage. However, the wire decking involved means wire shelving is not suitable for storing small items, which may fall through the gaps. Instead, small items should be stored in boxes and then placed onto the wire shelving. Long span shelving: This is suitable for manual removal or deposit of items from the shelves. This shelving system allows for maximum usage of your warehouse’s height and accommodates loads that are long as well as heavy. Additionally, long span shelving is highly adaptable and can be adjusted to suit different load levels. Static shelving: This is fixed to the floor, making it one of the more traditional shelving systems. This allows for easy access to products, which is ideal if items need to be frequently accessed by multiple users. However, static shelving requires aisle space between each rack, making it less space efficient. Multi-tier shelving: It can double the storage capacity of your warehouse because of its full utilisation of a building’s height. Suitable for a range of stock, multi-tier shelving can dramatically boost your warehouse’s efficiency and allow for smooth operational processes. Multi-tier shelving is built in a sturdy fashion, with stairways, handrails, mezzanine floors and beams. Two-tier mobile shelving: This combines the features of multi-tier and mobile aisle shelving, utilising your available space efficiently. Consisting of shelving and a mezzanine, two-tier mobile shelving optimises both floor space and the vertical space of your warehouse. The various heavy duty shelving options are suitable for different businesses, depending on your needs. In addition to the above options, a quality industrial storage provider will be able to custom design a shelving system that meets your business’s unique needs and space requirements.
